This travel poster was produced in 1982 promoting the Orient Express which ran between London, Paris, Milan and Venice. It was the most opulent way to travel taking in the most romantic and scenic views along the way.

Here the artist Pierre Fix-Masseau has depicted the Orient Express passing the ‘Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II’ the oldest shopping mall in Italy. The Orient Express was also a symbol of the Belle Epoque era and the aspiration of peace after the World Wars. Fix-Masseau captured this feeling in this poster with the inclusion of two white doves.

Henry Constantine Richter was an English zoological illustrator who produced a very large number of coloured lithographs of birds and mammals, mainly for the scientific books of the renowned English 19th century ornithologist John Gould.

This Richter print features a blue-throated star frontlet hummingbird from Colombia and Bolivia. A perfect print for a bedroom or gallery wall.

Pieter Bleeker was one of the most productive 19th century ichthyologists, identifying and describing nearly 2000 new fish species, and introducing more than 500 new genera.

This Nautilus print was originally hand painted by George Sowerby. George was educated at home under private tutors, and afterwards assisted his father in the production of illustrated works on natural history. When his father died, he and his brother James Sowerby continued their father's work on fossil shells. George published about 50 papers on molluscs and started several comprehensive, illustrated books on the subject.

André Marie Constant Duméril was a French zoologist. He was professor of anatomy at the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle and became a professor of herpetology and ichthyology.

This print is of a bird fresco found at the palace of Knossos. The palace had been the centre of a Bronze Age civilisation of the Minoans (named after the legendary King Minos). After its discovery it was excavated by an archeological team led by Sir Arthur Evans in the early 20th century. Evans would later re-imagine and partially restore the palace.

This Bird Fresco would look in keeping with a conservatory, study but would also look great in a bedroom or bathroom.

John James Audubon was a French-American self-trained artist, naturalist and ornithologist. He extensively studied all types of American birds in their natural habitat and made detailed illustrations which were used to produce his major work, ‘The Birds of America’. In this he scientifically identified 25 new species, the names of many of these are still used today.
