Lion
This reclining lion is one a a collection of lines by Rembrandt van Rijn. North African lions were brought on ships of the Dutch East India Company to the Netherlands. Of the many animals Rembrant drew, lions were of particular interest. He drew animals to acquaint himself with their appearance and character, so that later on he could portray them from the imagination and incorporate them in his other paintings.
This magnificent lion would be very at hime in a bedroom or living room.
